Warm greetings to the International Workers Institute (IWI) and congratulations on the occasion of its 3rd Anniversary.
The founding of the IWI in 2022 was a response to a real and persistent requirement within the international trade union movement – the need to consciously strengthen ideological work and research, recognising them as a central and indispensable component of struggle.
Ideological work is integral to the work of a serious, class-conscious trade union movement. Without clarity on class and on the nature of capitalism, trade unions risk becoming instruments of routine administration, narrow economism and/or unprincipled social partnership.
The work of the IWI demonstrates the qualitative difference between an international trade union movement rooted in class consciousness and those international formations that lack it. The IWI treats theory as a guide to action, grounded in the concrete conditions faced by workers and working class across the world.
This approach is particularly important in the current period, marked by deepening inequality and imperialist conflict, the IWI’s contribution assists unions in understanding these dynamics and in situating national struggles within a broader international context.
This important function played by IWI ensures a balanced approach to trade union work, ideological work and theory.
We locate this work firmly within its commitment to internationalism, political and ideological work. We recognise that the international working class cannot effectively confront capital without developing its own intellectual tools, institutions, and perspectives. The IWI represents an important intervention in that direction.
We congratulate the IWI on its Third Anniversary and wish it continued strength in advancing working-class analysis, cooperation, and struggle internationally.
Long live working Class Power!!!
