Valentin Pacho Quispe

He is a Peruvian citizen. He experienced child labor from 7 to 13 years old. At the age of 16 he started working as a construction worker.

From the age of 18 he became a leader of the Construction Workers Union in his region, and later he became the General Secretary of the same union.

In the 1970s he was General Secretary of the Regional Federation of Workers in the southern region of Peru (Arequipa). In the late 1970s he became national leader of the Peruvian Federation of Civil Construction Workers (FTCCP).

In the 1980s he was elected General Secretary of the General Confederation of Peruvian Workers (CGTP).

From 1985 to 1990 he was Senator of the Republic of Peru. From 1992 to 1995 he was president of the CGTP.

He was elected Vice-president at the 11th Congress of the WFTU in 1986, held in Berlin (GDR).

He was re-elected at the 12th Congress (1990) held in Moscow, and at the 13th WFTU Congress he was elected its Deputy General Secretary until the 16th Congress held in Athens (2011).

Finally, at the 17th Congress (2016) held in Durban, South Africa, he was elected Vice-President of the WFTU.

During his activities in the trade union and political movement as a member of the Communist Party in Peru, he was persecuted, imprisoned, deported by military dictatorship to Argentina, also ruled by military dictatorship.

From 2023 he is part of the Trade Union Education Committee of the International Workers’ Institute (IWI).
