A revealing research for Ukraine: The role of neo-Nazis and the West in the 2014 uprising

The screening of the documentary-research in France provoked a storm of reactions from the official authorities of Kiev. Its title is “The Masks of Revolution” and it was shot in 2016, two years after the dramatic events in Ukraine, known as Euromaidan, that led to the overthrow of the pro-Russian president of the country.

The documentary-research by French journalist Paul Moreira on the role of neo-Nazis and the West in Ukraine is shocking, as he describes that Eastern European country as “an advanced outpost of the Cold War between East and West, a country of military, political and ideological conflict.”

“The masks of the revolution”

The documentary “The Masks of the Revolution” is a research by Paul Moreira, produced by the Premières Lignes for “Special Investigation”.

It was filmed in 2016, two years after the dramatic events in Ukraine known as Euromaidan, which led to the overthrow of pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych and marked the turn of Ukrainian policy towards the West.

A year later, the screening of the documentary in France sparked angry reactions from the official authorities in Kiev.

The massacre in Odessa

The documentary also chronicles the horrific neo-Nazi arson attack on the House of Trade Unions in Odessa, in which dozens of people were burned alive or beaten to death.

“This confrontation was simple: on the one hand the good Ukrainians, the pro-Europeans, the freedom fighters, on the other the Moscow allies, the dark side of the Force,” the documentary preface emphasizes.

“But was this view nothing more than a caricature, or even worse, a biased preconception?” Paul Moreira returned to Kyiv and investigated. What he discovered was extremely worrying…
